Vintage Sewing Pattern of the Day: Vintage 1970s Full Length Knit Cape by McCall's

Vintage 1970s Cape Pattern

If I had a magic sewing wand that with a simple flick of the hand, the garment I wish to sew would appear, this knit cape would be one of them. All right, I know knitting is not sewing, but you get the idea ^_^. I love that this cape borders between fantasy and chic classic.

The Vintage 60s + 70s Fashion Icons and Muses

120 123 124 126 127

The great icons of the 1960s from the queens of the cinema (Jane Fonda, Anna Karina, Mia Farrow), the wide eyed super models (Twiggy, Penelope Tree) and of course the music muses (Francoise Hardy, Janis Joplin, Diana Ross). There are so many icons from the past that I look to for inspiration, who is your vintage fashion muse?

Vintage Fashion Trends From the Past : Loose Layers, Menswear for Women, & Socks With Heels

Everything old is new again! This saying leads me to believe that vintage clothing will never go out of fashion because fashion itself will never go out of fashion, and let's be honest with ourselves, there are very few trends out there that are completely organic. Everything is borrowed, reworked, and reinvented to fit modern trends and fads.

What are some modern day trends you can think of that we've borrowed from the past?

Vintage Streetstyle | The 1970s

Some of these photos look like they were taken yesterday with a vintage camera. Especially the one tagged "Amsterdam". The girl in the yellow coat could be on The Sartorialist! Also love the street photo of the girl in Olives + Camel tones, she is holding a rolled up Cosmopolitan magazine. It's very apparent, even through these simple found vintage photographs, that the styles & trends of the 1970s are still influencing modern day fashion.

Fashions of the Late 1960s + Early 1970s by F.C. Gundlach

The mid to late 60s set the stage for Hippie fashions. These fashion photos depict the styles between 1966-1971 captured by West German photographer, FC Gundlach. His most famous photo is probably that one of the girl in the geometric bathing suit with her hands behind her back (most associated with MOD).

David Hamilton is inspiring me...

Oh goodness, these are so beautiful and truly inspiring me to get new photos done for Adore Vintage. I haven't done a photoshoot in a very, very long time. I think the last shoot I did was "Belle Epoque" with my gorgeous friend, Tara, and photographer Gregory Gore which was about TWO years ago!

Anyhow, I've been chatting with a friend of Justin's who is an INCREDIBLE photographer. So hopefully we will be able to work together soon and have some phone on a photo shoot. I always love doing shoots, they're just a lot of work and I get very exhausted by the end of the day. But I'm crossing my fingers this gets off and going soon!

Sorry for the little hiatus from the blog. Spent a long weekend with the family up North and always need a mini vacation from the mini vacation. *hehe* Actually I was busy with catching up on housework which meant work-work had to wait.

Blog to regular blogging tomorrow. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Vintage Scans from 1970s Seventeen Magazine

Scans from vintage Seventeen magazines dating from the late 60s and early 70s (1969, 1970, and 1971 to be exact). I love the clothing from this time period, so I thought I would share. My favorite ad is probably the one for Yardley's 'Devonshire Cream lipstick'. So pretty!

Sorry some of them are cut off. My scanner is quite tiny compared to the magazines themselves. Vintage Seventeen magazines measure about 13.5" x 10" compared to our standard 11" x 8.5" issues now.
